How much is too much?

We need oxygen to survive, but excessive amounts can lead to oxygen poisoning and even death.

How many people do you know who have destroyed their body through excessive exercise?

I guess there is too much of a good thing.

This can be good and bad.

When we are slothful, incorporating activity is painful.

When we are active, periods of inactivity are uncomfortable.

When we eat garbage, the body freaks out when healthy food is introduced.

When we eat nutritionally, fast food can induce vomiting.

When we practice conscious living, we resist absent-minded activity.

When we practice inattentive action, that is all we can do.

I will never be 6 feet tall. I will never have a thick head of hair and I am pretty sure that I will never be able to do a split. Those are my genetics and I cannot do anything to alter them. Science has come a long way, and certain traits that were considered permanent can now be changed. Boobs can be added and taken away. Eye color, hair color, skin color, nose shape, body fat, wrinkles, all have lost any semblance of permenance these days. It is even possible to give a baseball pitcher a faster fastball through surgery.

What is permanent? Ignoring the changes that we can affect through medicine, the condition of our body has limits that we can never move beyond. When you straighten your arm, there is a point that your elbow will not move past. That is a physical limitation that is more or less written in bone.

I learned something new today:

In Sanskrit, a mental or physical act is called karma, just as the consequences of that act are also called karma.

Because every action (physical or otherwise) has a consequence, it makes sense that the action refers to the consequence, not just as an after-thought or aside.
